We ( Kayode Alabi Leadership and Career Initiative- KLCI ) are more delighted to start 2019 in an amazing fashion. We were able to include Global Citizenship into our curriculum and introduce secondary school students in underserved communities to it. This is also to complement our project "Project LECT (Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Character Training). So today, we had a session on Global Citizenship with Community Comprehensive High School Students, Olambe. We identified problems that not only affects us but other people across the world and we identified ways in standing up for such problems. We did this using two different task; 1. In other people's shoe's; Where students wrote in shoes how they will take action on illiteracy, climate change, violence, teenage pregnancy, poverty etc. The students after this exchanged the shoes and were asked to present what the other person has written in the shoe. Our Executive Director "Hammed Kayode Alabi" joined the whole world to celebrate the World Education Day by sharing his thoughts on Education as a key driver for inclusion and empowerment. This will probably enlighten someone or encourage someone to take action on educational issues. Find full article below;  Education is derived from a latin word educere or educare which means to lead out, to bring out, to mold or to train. Education is to bring out the innate potential in every individual. Education in another dimension is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in order to become a responsible member of the society. Education without the acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values is just synonymous to schooling. The number of years spent in school or the act of going to school without learning. An education that refuses to bring out the innate potential in an individual is not a true education. An education that denies ones the abili...

Empowering Secondary School Students in Rural Communities with 21st Century Skills

Image
Anytime I visit Lekki or some top secondary schools accross Lagos, I noticed these schools have all what it takes to teach their students 21st century skills. I entered one of the class, the class had a projector, free WiFi and conducive with air condition. I asked myself how much would a student pay to enjoy many of these Facilities? Over =N=300,000 per term (3 month) which is equivalent to $1000 (Excluding fee for extra-curricular). I looked at myself and I said, "The community where I was raised, students do not have access to such facilities." Let's forget the facilities, "can they even afford $3 for feeding ?. The children of you and I may find it difficult to attend such schools. I visited a school in a particular area in Ogun State and I saw the teacher hustling with a student to ensure he pays his school fee. You may want to ask how much 1000 Naira I.e. equivalent to $3. The fact is children in rural communities face starkly a different life because of th...
