Happy Anniversary (KLCA is a year old)
Whoa! It's a year already. This time last year we were pregnant with this dream. The dream to ensure that Secondary School Students live up to their potential. The dream to ensure that they can connect what they do in the classroom with the practical world. The dream to ensure that students develop life skills that enable them integrate into the labor market. The dream to provide positive role models and mentors to students. And create students who are character conscious and can replicate democracy. The dream to promote a peaceful society and create young and ethical leaders. The dream to break the poverty cycle and ensure that students in underserved communities are exposed to skills that enable them to compete with their peers. The dream to inspire them to dream.
To our delight, we are happy students have start to make decisions that affect their lives and lives of other people.
Some of our students have started the Say No To Girl Child Abuse Initiative. That's amazing. Another student after her Secondary school is planning to learn nursing as a means of preparation for the course she want to study at the university.
It wasn't easy at first but it becomes clearer along the line as we continue to understand the deep needs of the students especially those living in underserved communities. We understand that students need more counselling. This has made us to appoint some of them as Ambassador's and continue to engage them through our online young leaders club.
We understand that students want to learn Vocational Skills and many more. This has made us introduce design thinking to our curriculum.
So far,
We have been able to reach 1150 students through Project LECT (Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Character Training). A mentorship symposia that equip children with skills that enables them to be aware of their strength, interest and dispositions. We have about 30 volunteers. We also have 6 facilitators for our online courses. We have our presence in three states in Nigeria Lagos, Ogun and Ilorin. We are proud to use the Volunteer - Students to cascade our curriculum. We build our organization around people.
Also, we have an online school for young people between the age of 15 - 35. We offer them trainings leadership and Career Development. We provide total quality supports for them and we have students across Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently we have about 130 students spread across two cohorts.
We want to also appreciate our team, which made up of volunteers and facilitators. We appreciate you all. Without you guys there is no KLCA. Thank you all for taking the organization as yours.
Ultimately, Leadership is a journey of self actualization and self discovery. It gets clearer everyday and without you people we will not have KLCA.
We know we are not where we want to be but we are not where we were.
KLCA we continue to meet the needs of the 21st century children and bridge the gap in skills between students in underserved communities and cities.
Thank you all!
Happy 1 year Anniversary
