Skill2Rural Bootcamp was a Wrap (90 Students, 11 Teachers and 20 Volunteers) Matogun - Olambe Community, Ogun State
DAY 1
The camp started at exactly 9:00 am with the
registration of students and their teachers from various schools in the
community. Students were briefed on the importance of the bootcamp and network with each other.
The lecture commence at 10: 00am with Mr
Toheeb Abdulsalam who took a session on ‘Entreprenuership’.
The second session was on ‘Emotional
Intelligence’ facilitated by Mr Taiwo teaching the students and other
participants to be aware of other people’s emotions.
Brunch break was by 11:57am during
which the participants were involved in various fun exercises and icebreakers.
The sessions continued after the
break with Miss Victoria Ibiwoye, the founder of One African Child on ‘Servant
Leadership’.
The fourth speaker, Mr Hammed Kayode Alabi spoke on ‘Design Thinking’. The participants were divided into a group of ten
with at least seven members in each group and they were given assignments to design
think solutions to identified problems using cardboards, pencil etc. The
participants were to continue with the assignment the next day.
Our participants were taught using videos/Audio visual to facilitate learning and improve performance. Students watch videos on Good and Bad Leadership, Servant Leadership, Skills needed in the 21st century, How the world will look like in 2050 etc.
The first day came to a creative
conclusion with participants anticipating what the boot camp had in store for
them the next day.
Day 2
The day started on a rainy note but
that did not stop our anticipating participants from coming back to the boot
camp.
Various sessions were taken on topics
such as ‘Sustainability, Money Management, Philosophy and Value System, Future Readiness panel session,Vision Boarding Computer Appreciation and many others.
There was a brunch break after which
the participants picked up from where they stopped on their design thinking
assignments. Various groups designed solutions to identified problems such as
poor education, bad roads, bad electricity, poverty etc. Their solutions which
range from having Mobile Hospitals, Community Health Centers, Skill Acquisition
Centers and Mechanized Farmlands were presented on group by group bases.
Parents were also present to see what their children have created. In the voice of one of the parents, she said, "We have never seen such training before, We pray God gives you strength to do more"
The prize giving session was next
with a total of six students presented with prizes for active participation.
The boot camp came to an exciting
conclusion with the announcement for the establishment of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Clubs by
the students in their schools to continue and practice what they learnt in the
boot camp, then participants and the organizing team members took pictures to
commensurate the close of the boot camp.
